World YWCA Day

Each year on April 24, the YWCA movement celebrates World YWCA Day and this year, once again, Member Associations from all over the world held their traditional YWCA “Round-the-World Breakfast” with members and friends. Here are some of the highlights:

Queridas hermanas. Es otra vez el momento del año donde nos reunimos para celebrar el Día de la YWCA Mundial y continuamos honrando el liderazgo de las mujeres de nuestras comunidades. En este día, unimos nuestros corazones y festejamos el hecho de pertenecer a tan histórico y poderoso movimiento, la YWCA. También celebramos y loamos nuestros esfuerzos colectivos para hacer de este mundo un lugar más seguro para las mujeres y niñas, y seguimos conscientes de las dificultades diarias que enfrentamos en este viaje.

Estamos nuevamente en esa época del año en que el movimiento YWCA se prepara para festejar el Día de la YWCA Mundial. El 24 de abril de 2011, celebraremos este día tan especial y continuaremos centrándonos en el tema del Consejo de la YWCA Mundial, ‘Las Mujeres Crean un Mundo Seguro,’ que se llevará a cabo del 10 al 16 de julio del presente año. Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, Secretaria General de la YWCA Mundial, comparte con nosotras algunas ideas para vincular el tema del Consejo con la celebración del Día de la YWCA Mundial.

Solomon Islands YWCA raises over $2000

On^,  April 23, 2010, the Solomon Islands YWCA celebrated World YWCA Day around this year’s theme ‘Women Creating a Safe World’.

On 24 April 2010, YWCA's worldwide celebrated World YWCA Day, most of them by holding the traditional YWCA “Round-the-World Breakfast” with members and friends. A much awaited yearly opportunity to celebrate women's leadership and the movement they are all so proud to be a part of.

On 24 April 2010, Susan Brennan, President of the World YWCA, enthusiastically celebrated World YWCA Day in Taiwan with 200 local YWCA members.

On 24 April 2010, a much awaited yearly tradition, which has been upheld since 1947, will once again take place: Through a variety of programs, YWCA's across the globe will unite for a common global goal by actively celebrating WORLD YWCA DAY. They will commemorate the history of the movement they are so proud of and reflect on this year's chosen theme “Women Creating a Safe World” (theme of World Council 2011).

Todas las mujeres tienen el derecho a una vida segura

Mujeres y jóvenes del movimiento de la YWCA en 120 países están a tan sólo unos días de celebrar el Día de la YWCA Mundial el 24 de abril. Como parte de las celebraciones, las asociaciones miembros reflexionarán sobre el tema del Día de la YWCA Mundial que es también el tema del Consejo Mundial de la YWCA 2011 en Suiza, “Las mujeres crean un mundo seguro”.

Since 1947, World YWCA Day has been celebrated annually and is an opportunity for YWCAs around the world to commemorate the history of this special movement. Each year the celebration has a different theme and programme that enables members to act locally for a common global goal and on April 24, 2010, the World YWCA will continue to focus on ‘Women Creating a Safe World.’

Over 40 friends and partners of the World YWCA joined in World YWCA Day celebrations in Geneva, Switzerland on April 24. The occasion was an opportunity to reflect on the World YWCA Day theme ‘Women Creating a Safe World’ and also learn more about the work of the World YWCA. The event involved a number of different presentations including ‘Honouring Women Leaders’ and an introduction to World YWCA Council 2011 along with a photo stream of YWCA programmes around the globe.
